Families that will be visiting the Australia Zoo these school holidays are in for rare treat as Australia Zoo Launches Rare Encounters with Endangered Animals.
Terri, Bindi and Robert launch Australia Zoo’s new animal encounters
Crikey! Australia Zoo launched two new hands-on encounters, and is now the only zoo in the world where visitors can get their hands on a Komodo Dragon!
Launching the brand new ‘Colossal Komodo Dragon’ and ‘Rascally Red Panda’ encounters to coincide with current South East Asia-themed school holiday activities, Australia Zoo has extended its popular hands-on encounters to include the world’s largest lizard and some cute little rascals.
Weighing up to 100 kilograms and eating up to 80% of their own body weight in a single meal, the Komodo Dragon is currently listed as a vulnerable species. Australia Zoo currently has three Komodo Dragons, with visitors now able to book an up-close encounter with one of the residentmales, ‘Fat Boy’.
Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin were also on hand today to launch the ‘Rascally Red Panda’ encounter with two of Australia Zoo’s newest residents, Yoddah and Pasang. Having recently moved into their on-display enclosure, Yoddah and Pasang represent their vulnerable species,
with the new encounters raising money for animal conservation.
These new encounters were launched in conjunction with Australia Zoo’s South East Asia- themed school holiday activities, which aim to highlight the unique wildlife of South East Asia. Australia Zoo has some of South East Asia’s biggest and cutest animals for you to get up close to.
You can hand-feed Asian Elephants, watch playful Sumatran and Bengal Tigers go for a swim, check out cute Asian Otters, and of course, meet a Komodo Dragon and Red Pandas. Daily talks are also being held to increase awareness of Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors’ conservation efforts in South East Asia.
Also these school holidays, visitors to Australia Zoo can join Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin for the croc shows at 11am daily in the Crocoseum, and check out Terri and Wes feeding the crocs every day until 9 July.
Plus, check this out! There will be an auction in the Crocoseum every day until 9 July for an exclusive elephant experience with the Irwin family! Wooo-hoo!
Australia Zoo’s regular school holiday programs, Brekkie with the Characters and Zoo Keeper for a Day, are also running until the end of the school holidays.
