Holiday Photography for Kids

Photography for kidsAllowing your children to capture the memories of the family holiday on film is a great way to introduce them to photography and moviemaking. Not only does it teach your kids some basic skills of photography, it can help them create a show and tell story of the holiday which can be expressed online with their friends and family. The concept of getting them involved will help them to engage in the experience and not get board

Reference material: There are some great sites and blogs which cover this topics two examples digimom provides a nice overview while digital-photography-school.com is a great reference point for further detail.

Ideas and handy tips

  1. Story Boards – get your children to create story board of what they want capture, this will help you kids get a better understanding of the holiday plans and help them develop a plan for what they want to capture and how they can build it into their holiday.
  2. Themes – get your kids to create a theme for the story board, or get them to introduce an object i.e. their favourite small toy might need to appear in every shot or scene.
  3. Competition: Find a competition that may be suitable for the kids to enter i.e. the Sony Tropfest – See if you can find a competition that they might be interested in entering, ie

Digital cameras and Digital video players

Today you can find great laptops under the $1000 they can make a great travel tool to any holiday for research of destinations, and a great way to start sharing holiday snaps on the road if you have a online connection available.

Where to share and store online photos, I would recommend getting yourself a free flickr account to load and share, or you could also do it through MySpace, Facebook or other social media site. There are some other great free sites set up by the Kodak and HP which are also great way for friends and family to download and easily print photos from your collection.

What if you don’t want you children using your $2000 digital SLR camera, don’t fear I would recommend grabbing a digital camera from EBay, hear you can pick up great digital cameras from people who have upgraded etc. There really is no need to go for the top of range for your kids so much can be done on digital camera that has only 2 to 3 mega pixels.
