Lake Crackenback Resort

Lake Crackenback Resort

Located on the shores of Lake Crackenback (and conveniently a few 100 metres away from the Ski Tube to Perisher), Lake Crackenback Resort is both picturesque and family friendly.

It’s proximity to both Thredbo and Perisher ski fields make it an ideal choice for a family ski holiday and on no-ski days there is the added bonus of Crackenback’s wide range of off-mountain activities.

It’s also an ideal base from which to explore the mountains in Summer – whether on foot, horseback or mountain bike. There are walking trails and bike trails of varying grades of difficulty around the property taking you along Thredbo and Little Thredbo River and into the surrounding bush.

Bikes are available for hire and maps are available at reception for self guided tours but you can also opt for a guided tour. If you’d rather take a more leisurely down river or on the lake itself, kayaks are also available.

And this year Lake Crackenback has introduced a new way for guests to explore the surrounding bushland – Segway tours. These odd looking all-terrain vehicles are surprisingly easy to manoeuvre and great fun. Kids join in on a guided all-terrain Eco Tour as long as they’re over 35kg, or if they’re under the magic weight level they can still have a go at the Resort’s Skills Park.

And if that’s not enough, there’s also archery, trampolines, tennis, badminton, volleyball, a low ropes course, gym and heated swimming pool. So if your kids complain about being bored, they really aren’t trying.

The apartments are incredibly spacious. Ours was lakeside, with three bedrooms – one double bedroom in a loft which we had to draw straws for – large kitchen, two bathrooms and heated laundry.

Oh – and of course there’s a day spa where I indulged in a 60 minute therapeutic massage – the perfect way to spend the early evening after a busy day’s skiing. Bliss.
