Madame Tussauds: a museum for 21st century kids

I visited Madame Tussauds in London, years and years ago, and I didn’t for a moment think – one day my kids are going to LOVE this. Boy was I wrong!

Madame Tussauds opens officially in Sydney this week, with a star-studded celebrity party and a batch of secret new wax work stars. We took the kids for a sneak peek of the museum on a rainy school holiday day (because that’s what you do on rainy days right? Museums, movies and libraries.

I thought it might occupy their attention for an hour or two, so I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see the NEW Madame Tussauds is a different species altogether. A mix of international and Aussie heroes, historical figures, leaders, sporting heroes and of course the red carpet selection, this place is FUN. There are dress ups next to each model and visitors are encouraged to touch them, get their photo taken with them and generally interact.

There are interactive displays – read out your government policy at the podium next to Julia Gillard, sit on the throne next to the Queen, hit the drums with Farnsie and Barnsie and sing along with Rihanna.
